Green Cleaning Products on Sale in Your Grocery Store Print

These days, lots of conscientious homeowners and others are finding that there are a lot of ways to improve the process of interior cleaning to help save resources and avoid some toxins and potentially harmful substances in traditional home and interior cleaners.

More than a few “green cleaners” are going the do-it-yourself route, making their own green cleaning products at home from very basic natural materials.  They’re saving money as well as improving their health and the health of their community.

But others lack the time, confidence or interest to start creating their own cleaning products.  Homeowners who want to avoid home chemistry experiments might still want to go greener with cleaning supplies, and for those who are wondering “are there green products available where I shop?”, the answer is yes.

Large cleaning supply companies are now joining the green movement in their own ways, offering products that are made with an eye toward the least toxic solutions and the overall health of the world community.

S.C. Johnson is one example of a firm leading the charge in providing green cleaning products over the counter.

The company’s Greenlist product guide helps buyers figure out the relative impact of cleaners on the earth and human health.

How does it work?  Greenlist assigns a numeric value to every Johnson product, from 0 to 3.

A (1) is at least a step in the right direction; a (3) represents new and improved cleaning solutions.  A (0) means the product has not been changed for healthier effects, but Johnson is still working to come out with a new and improved version ranking higher on the Greenlist.

Johnson is not the only company looking to provide shoppers with greener solutions: check out the shelves for various certification systems and ingredients that leave out the toxins and do more with natural elements.  You’ll see more and more on the shelf as manufacturers compete to help buyers enter the future of the market: a move toward low-impact products that clean well without introducing a lot of harsh chemicals into the environment, because there’s only one world, and we all live there.
